Love has no boundaries, and international marriages are no longer unusual. But obtaining a visa might be difficult for spouses who live abroad. Before their visas expire, foreign spouses must leave their partners and kids.

They hardly have much time to spend together. Reuniting many international families seems like a pipe dream, especially during the epidemic.

For extended reunion, applying for a China Green Card, or permanent residence card, may be a desirable alternative for international spouses.

A green card eliminates the requirement for a visa for entry and exit into China, saving the time and money required to obtain a visa each time you pass through customs.

And as everyone is aware, it is illegal for foreigners without work permits to work in China without permission. Even if they are granted a work visa, there will still be significant limitations on their capacity to work, including the inability to freely switch jobs and places.

There is no restriction on employment for foreigners possessing Chinese green cards, nevertheless. This indicates that foreigners living in China who have green cards should be given full employment rights and subject to all applicable labour rules.

“Isn’t obtaining a green card from China one of the world’s most challenging tasks? What conditions must I fulfil?”

Yes, it is challenging. It is true that there are fewer requirements if you apply through marriage.

You are eligible to submit your application if you have been married for at least five years, have lived in China for at least five consecutive years and at least nine months each year, are the spouse of a Chinese citizen or of a foreigner with permanent residence status in China, and have a stable source of income and a place to live.

Required paperwork for application:

  1. Applicaiion for Pemianent Residence in China;
  2. Recent frontal colour photos of bare heads.
  3. The applicant’s current foreign passport or other form of identification.
  4. A foreign spouse’s permanent residence certificate or the Chinese spouse’s permanent residence certificate.
  5. The health certificate issued by a foreign health and medical facility accredited by the Chinese embassy or consulate abroad, or by a health and quarantine department designated by the Chinese government in China.
  6. Chinese embassies and consulates abroad have validated a certificate of no criminal history abroad.
  7. Marriage licence.
  8. A notarized copy of the house lease or other document proving ownership rights and living support.
  9. A 100,000 yuan certificate of deposit with a longer term than six months.
